They are similar to an app where you upload a picture of a house, and it outputs the price. It’s true that the site’s stats are pivotal in determining the value of a website, but its price relies on other factors such as the website’s niche, the market sentiment, or the buyer’s desire, all of which can’t be determined by an app.

1. Revenue Multiple Method

According to this method, the value of a site is determined by the following formulas:

(12÷36) x Monthly Profit = Sale Price

or

(1÷3) x Annual Profit = Sale Price

These formulas are equivalent—the first one refers to the monthly profit while the second one refers to the annual profit. The idea behind this method is that the monthly gain determines the site’s price. Therefore, if you want to get wealth from it, you should do your best to grow the monthly profit.

The first factor of the equation price is called the multiple. Its value varies from 12 to 36, and it really makes a difference. A website that generates £1,000 monthly profit can be sold for £12,000 or £36,000. That’s a pretty significant difference, isn’t it?

The multiple reveals how the buyer and seller perceive the site. On the one hand, a trustworthy site that generates that profit for a year or more and relies on diverse income streams is a secure investment. Consequently, the buyers agree to pay more money because the acquisition is a sure bet. On the other hand, a freshly launched site that has a unique stream of income isn’t the safest bet in the world. As a result, the multiple reaches the minimum value for these sites.

The multiple is influenced by a few factors:

However, all of these drawbacks are corrected by adjusting the multiple factor.

2. Comparing Method

How do you value a website using this technique? It’s simple and efficient even though it may seem unprofessional. The comparing method means looking through a listing site or a marketplace to see the prices of other sites. Look for sites with similar revenue, traffic, age, and monetisation methods. The closer the values are, the better the estimated price will be.

Of course, it’s a matter of good luck to find sites with similar stats. You have to do gross estimations and extrapolate various average values. It makes sense to approximate by adding the price of a site with good metrics and reliable income streams.

3. Asset Value Method

Sites that generate no revenue are valued through this method. It means pricing a website from what it can achieve and not what it’s currently achieving. This method evaluates the potential or assets tied to the site (for example, the email list, qualified leads, and original content) and not the effective revenue. New sites or ones improperly managed might be evaluated with this method. The major flaw of this approach, however, is that a site’s value can vary a lot.

How to value a website isn’t rocket science, but it requires taking into account tens of elements. At some point, you probably were or will be lured into the idea of selling your site. INSTALL SSL CERTIFICATE ON WEBMIN SERVER

Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration of UNIX Operating system that includes managing user accounts, disk quotas, services or configuration files as well as modify or controlling open source apps from the console or remotely. Webmin includes CGI programs and a simple server and these programs are written in Perl version 5 without any specific Perl module. Here, we are going to explain how to install SSL certificate on Webmin server.

You need to create a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) to configure CA-signed SSL certificate for your Webmin server.

Make sure you should have following software for the entire process:

– Download and install the latest LTS version of Ubuntu 16.04.3 for a desktop.
– Webmin 1.840 with Apache web-server 2.4.18

Follow Process to Generate a CSR for Webmin Server:

Step 1: First, you need to login into Webmin administration panel and open server’s Terminal screen (Alt+K) as the seen picture below:

Step 2: At terminal prompt, type or paste the following OpenSSL command to generate CSR code. It will create private key as well CSR.

openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout /etc/ssl/example_com.key -out /etc/ssl/example_com.csr/

Note: In above command, you will have to change the name of private key and CSR with your domain name. And out /etc/ssl/example_com.csr/ refers to path and file name to save CSR.

example_com.key is a private key, which should be saved on desktop/server and do not disclose to anyone. After that, you will have to enter CSR details that are as mentioned below:

  • C=US [two-letter abbreviation refers to country code]
  • ST= It refers State, Type full state Name, for example: California
  • L= It refers locality, Type Full City name, for example: Los Angeles
  • O= It refers Organization name, Type your Full legal company or personal name. For example: Company LLC
  • OU= It refers Organizational Unit, Type the department/division of your organization, for example: IT
  • CN= It refers Common Name or The Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for your website. For e.g. example.com If you’re requesting Wildcard Certificate, add an asterisk (*) to the left of the common name. for example, *.example.com

After OpenSSL command is entered and executed, You have generated CSR code including —–BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST—– and —–END CERTIFICATE REQUEST—– headers and paste it on the configuration page. Picture below shows CSR code:

Install SSL Certificate on Webmin Server

Once you have completed the process of generating CSR for Webmin Server, Follow steps to install SSL on Webmin as mentioned below:

Step 1: Once you receive certificate files from Certificate Authority (CA) after domain and company validation, save those files on your local computer. Now, open main certificate file “example_com.crt” including a private key and certificate bundle file “example_com.ca-bundle” with a text editor and copy the code including the tags —–BEGIN CERTIFICATE—– and —–END CERTIFICATE—– of both files into a single file called WebminServer.pem that you can upload to a Webmin server.

Step 2: Replace WebminServer.pem file:
Now, locate WebminServer.pem file found at /etc/Webmin location and replace this file with newly created newWebminServ.pem file that includes a private key and main certificate file. You can replace a file with below code:

cat example_com.key example_com.crt > newWebminServ.pem

Note: Make sure to change the name of private key and certificate file name according to your domain.

Screen layout of newWebminServ.pem file will be as:

Note: You should have a backup copy of WebminServer.pem file before replacing it with your new .pem file.

Step 3: Configure WebminServer.conf file:
Open WebminServer.conf file with notepad and enter the location of intermediate certificate

extracas=/etc/webmin/intermediate_Certificate.crt

Step 4: Finally, you should restart Webmin server and open website URL in the browser.

Your SSL certificate is now installed and you can use SSL checker tool to confirm certificate details.

Here’s what the Google SSL update means for you

In the address bar of your Chrome browser is the URL of the site you have visited, beginning with https://. This handily designates that the website is secure, and is using SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer.

SSL is a standard protocol for security that ensures that links between web servers and browsers are encrypted.

For this reason, search giant Google has this month upped the stakes on websites when it comes to SSL.

Google updates SSL policy

On 1 October, Google released an SSL update that enforces stricter measures against websites that don’t provide SSL security. Starting this month, websites without SSL certification are now conspicuously marked as unsafe when visitors click on them.

Since Google’s Chrome browser claims 44.5% of web browser use this could spell disaster for websites without SSL.

Google has been marking websites without SSL for some time using a red X in the browser bar. But this time, the warning has been made more visible, and could lead to visitors feeling unsafe and choosing to visit somewhere else.

The update was made by Google to make sure customer data is protected. Users will also be made more aware of the risks related to sharing information over an unsecured website.

Even though the warning will only appear on Chrome, for now, the sizeable traffic chunk should be enough for websites to start securing their websites. It’s unlikely to take long for other browsers to follow Google’s lead.

The update will be implemented on all HTTP websites, regardless if they have passwords, credit card data, or form fields or not.
